Get started with Onvio Tax

Onvio Tax is a leading cloud-based UK personal tax offering from Thomson Reuters enabling you to manage your client's tax affairs centrally and collaborate between your staff and clients via the Onvio Centre/Onvio Client Centre online portal. Onvio Tax supports HMRC's Making Tax Digital (MTD) scheme allowing information for individuals and businesses to flow digitally between Onvio Tax and HMRC and financials to be submitted on a regular basis.

Initially you should follow the instructions and overviews for Getting started with Onvio from within Onvio Centre (select Onvio Centre from the application hamburger menu). These will guide you through setting up records for your firm, users, clients etc via Onvio Centre.

Client records created for use with Onvio Tax will need a valid National Insurance Number and, for MTD, records should be enabled to use OnBalance.

Follow the Create a sole trade link below for full details on how to set up a sole trade record for MTD purposes and submit financials under the scheme. Follow the Create a furnished holiday lettings or rents and other income business entity link below for details on how to set up these types of businesses for MTD purposes.

You should then return to follow these instructions which are specific to Onvio Tax:

Set up permissions for Onvio Tax to enable filing to HMRC

Add a tax project

Add tax schedule data

View tax return

View computation report

For MTD specific businesses:

Create a sole trade business entity for MTD

Create a furnished holiday lettings or rents and other income business entity for MTD
