Prepare Schedule 1 - Schedule of Heavy Highway Vehicles (2290)

Use Schedule 1 to do the following:

  • Report all vehicles for which the taxpayer is reporting tax (including an increase in taxable gross weight)
  • Report vehicles for which the taxpayer is reporting suspension of the tax by category and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Provide proof of payment to register vehicles(s) (unless specifically exempted) in any state

Complete the following steps to process Schedule 1.

  1. On the Data Entry tab, open the Return screen in the Return folder.

    Note: If more than one tax period unit is present, select the unit for which you want to calculate Form 2290 from the folders block or from the Return screen.

  2. Enter all vehicles reported on Schedule 1 in the statement dialog for the Vehicle information field in the Vehicle Information section.


    • Schedule 1 displays only the vehicle identification number (VIN) and vehicle category. Onvio Tax provides a Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Worksheet that displays additional information about the vehicles reported on Schedule 1 for ease of tracking.
    • Onvio Tax automatically prints two copies of Schedule 1. Both copies should be filed with the appropriate taxing authority. When the return is accepted and the tax paid, one copy of the Schedule 1 will be stamped and returned to the filer.
    • You can import Schedule 1 information into the Vehicle Information statement.
  3. Enter remaining data in the client's return, as necessary.
  4. Print or electronically file Schedule 1.
  5. Enter the remaining data for the selected tax period on the Return screen and the ELF screen, as necessary.
  6. File Form 2290 for the selected tax period by either printing and mailing the return or by electronically filing the completed tax return.
