Get started with Onvio Tax

If this is your first time using Onvio Tax, follow this process to help you get set up and familiar with the application.

Log in and get familiar with Onvio

  1. Log in to Onvio at  https://onvio.us using the instructions you received via email. We recommend using Google Chrome as your web browser. 
  2. You can find answers to your questions about Onvio and review additional resources for tax research and guidance via our Help & How-To Center, which you can access via help button in the upper-right corner of most Onvio screens.

Set up your firm and staff information (if applicable)

If you have additional staff at your firm, you can set up permissions, control access, and assign roles for those staff members. 

  1. To begin setting up your firm and staff, open Onvio Center by clicking the Application menu Menu button and choosing Onvio Center.
  2. If this is your first time logging in as your firm's Onvio administrator, you'll need to add a permission group
  3. Add staff and enable their Onvio access.
  4. Assign staff to a permission group
  5. Assign tax roles and enter EFINs and PTINs for your staff, if applicable. If you don't have any staff members, you only need to do this for yourself.
  6. If you plan to file returns electronically, submit your EFIN application summary if you haven't done so already.
  7. Choose Setup > Firm and verify that your firm's name, address, Employer Identification Number, and other information is correct. Note that this screen also displays your Firm ID. If you need to update your firm name, the Licensee can follow these steps.

Access and explore Onvio Tax 

  1. Click the Application menu  Menu button and choose Onvio Tax.
  2. From the Projects list, click the  Tax button button next to the name of the project to open a tax return project. 
  3. In the Projects list, click the Edit button button in the row for a specific project to  assign a preparer, staff, or reviewer to that tax return.
  4. Explore the Onvio Tax interface as desired.

Begin processing tax returns

  1. (Optional) Review the staff and state or city returns assigned to the project via the Properties tab. The home state for each tax return is automatically added once the state application is released. You will need to add any additional states to the tax return as necessary.
  2. Import accounting data from Fiduciary Accounting Systems (FAS), if applicable. (Video included)
  3. Use the  screens in the Data Entry tab to enter or update tax return information for the current client.
  4. Add or update beneficiary information as necessary.  (Video included)
  5. Enter allocation information for beneficiaries.  (Video included)
  6. Create or customize client documents for your firm.

Review data entry and file return

  1. Review the return and address diagnostic messages as necessary.
  2. If desired, you can lock the return to suspend calculations and prevent further changes after review. 
  3. File the tax return electronically and create PDF or paper copies as needed.
