1041 e-file error: R0000-932-01

Error

If the "Amended Return" (or Superseded for 1120/1120S/1120-F/1041) checkbox is not checked, then the TIN in the Return Header cannot be the same as the TIN of an electronic return that has already been accepted for the return type and tax period indicated in the tax return. (value #########, rule R0000-932-02)

Note: The value indicates the TIN that was included in the electronic file.

Cause

This rejection means that the IRS has already accepted a paper return for the TIN included in the return.

Solution

If this is an amended or superseding return, complete the following data before transmitting the return.

  • Amended return, complete data entry on screen Amend, in the General folder.
  • Superseding return, mark the Superseding return checkbox on screen 1041, in the General folder.

If this is not an amended or superseding return, verify the EIN entered in the Employer identification number field on screen 1041, in the General folder. If it is incorrect, correct it and the re-create and transmit the e-file. If the EIN is correct you must file the return on paper, because the IRS has already accepted a paper return with that EIN. You may need to contact the IRS e-help desk at 866-255-0654.
